Q: How do I know which age group my child will fall into for the Fall 2010- Spring 2011 season?
A: The dates below qualify for the different age groups:
U8 8/1/02-7/31/03
U9 8/1/01-7/31/02
U10 8/1/00-7/31/01
U11 8/1/99-7/31/00
etc.
Q: How long is the season?
A: Travel soccer runs in the fall and spring with 10 games(5 home and 5 away) in each season. In addition, there are indoor practices in the winter at the schools and a training camp in the summer based on team interest and coach recommendation.
Q: When are the games?
A: JCYS games are on Saturday afternoons and MOSA games are on Sunday afternoons.
Q: How far do you travel and what teams do you play?
A: There are 2 leagues in the area. Monmouth Ocean Soccer Association(MOSA) and Jersey Coast Youth Soccer(JCYS). The games for both leagues typically fall within an hour driving distance in Monmouth and Ocean counties. An away game could be as close as Manalapan or as far as Toms River.
Q: How much money does it cost to play?
A: Per player costs can vary depending on how many players are on a team and if training has been decided. Costs for the fall season in the first year can run approximately $360 and can be $125 for the spring season. Included in these amounts were a 1 week camp in the summer for 2-3 hours/day and ball, uniform and backpack, MOSA league registration fees, New Jersey Youth Soccer(NJYS) player carding fees, Millstone United Travel Soccer(MUTS) registration fees, referee fees, and a trainer for 1 hour/week for 10 weeks in the spring.
Q: What are the coaches qualifications for travel soccer?
A: A minimum of a Class F license must be obtained to coach travel soccer through NJYS which includes both a classroom and field session. Most MUTS coaches are also Rec coaches and have also been background checked through the township.
