MUTS Mission

Millstone United Travel Soccer strives to use the game of soccer as a tool to develop children to reach their fullest potential on the pitch and in life through the elements found in the game; including competition, teamwork, character development and commitment

How we will achieve our mission?

  1. FUN-CULTURE – Coaches, parents and players work together to build individual skills and confidence while introducing concepts of teamwork, personal responsibility and social / emotional maturity.
    • 4-5 years old: to ignite interest and learn about the game of soccer.
    • 6-7 years old: to spark and imagine what is possible within the game of soccer.
    • 8-9 years old: to develop the basic skills that are necessary to enjoy the game of soccer for the rest of their lives while still keeping the process fun and enjoyable for each child. Team based concepts are introduced via scrimmages; festivals and league play at the coach’s discretion.
    • 10-11 years old: to develop a love for the sport once all the basic skills are obtained and are now seeking a higher level of mastery.  League play, festivals and tournaments are an integral part of the development at this age. Concepts of teamwork and responsibility are critical. Learning to stay humble in victory and positive in defeat are key.
    • 12-14 years old: mastering the basic skills and seek to take the next step in implementing more advanced skills. The fun is in the process of mastering skills and progressing as a player and a human being. Players will compete and learn how to handle the outcomes of games. Scores are not the basis for success but players need to learn how to compete. This is the age where team concepts become critical in development.
    • 13-15 years old: the more advanced teams will compete in order to win and face appropriate challenges that are just barely out of reach, which fuels the fires inside to want to reach the next level. The development also takes into account the physical and maturity level of each gender as the physical and mental aspect of the game changes.
    • 13+ years old: to play to win matches, using all the skills and lessons learned in the formative years, which are finally bringing out the fruits of their labor.  At 14U and above, the outcome of games directly impacts the competition and league play of teams so a diverse approach is needed to cater to the high-level teams while also meeting the needs of the local teams.
  1. FAMILY and COMMUNITY – Through a family and community-based approach, MUTS players spend time during practices, festivals, games and other MUTS events with a strong support and financial structure. Through this process parents are engaged during the formative ages. This will help provide a stronger bond between the club and the parents which ultimately benefits the children.  Educating coaches under the MUTS philosophy give coaches the tools to develop both better people and better soccer players which in turn helps to develop a better community.
  1. FUTURE CHARACTER – Ultimately, the child’s future character and success are what the club will be measured upon. This is the eventual goal that unites us all through the process.  It is important to “Everyone Involved” what happens with his/her child in the future. Whether it is playing at a high soccer level or being the best person that they can be, this is what should drive all of the MUTS decisions. The organization sets us up for a great future while having fun, being a part of a great family and community, working hard, learning, being responsible while competing at the highest level that the player and team can succeed.

Tryouts/Teams:

One day club wide tryouts will be held on April 21st  from 12-2pm.

All teams are encouraged to go to a year round tryout scheme – invite players to practices throughout the year.  At present many clubs are holding tryouts now so try to reach out and get players in.

Be responsive about getting bck to players after tryouts;   No later than a week after tryouts is the best course of action if at all possible.

Think about cutting – if you cut a player they will never come back.   Think about alternate ways of retaining players – for example, trying to create another team, etc..

New team forming:  2009 boys are looking to be formed.   Splitting off of Coach Tom’s team. Vinny reviewed requirements with the Coaches – they need to be certified and it was confirmed that Coach Sonia already had attained her F license and Coach Natalie would be getting it. It was discussed that we have an established team at this age group and that players can’t be poached from that team.   Need to get them from outside of Millstone.

(Roster size is 14 for 7v7 ideally.   But MUTs will try to accommodate all players even if the team is short players – 10 is a minimum).

Coach Tom’s team is now down to 11 2009’s.  The new team has 10 players;  Roman suggests that both new team and existing team work together so that teams don’t fold – share and borrow players if necessary to keep both teams viable.

08 girls team; 09 team – Vinny is coach. But he is ok with the girls going to this team if they haven’t approached him about coming to his team.

Vinny will have the team put on the website so that they can advertise themselves as a team to external players.  They will be a year round program but will focus on Fall.  In Spring they will just practice once a week and will allow other sports to be played.

Roman:  will create teamsnap account for them; send registrations to them and give them access to teamsnap account.

Trainer:  recommend by Ewing HS soccer.  Background is with a lot of high level teams and they are going on 10 years with only E license – Roman has concerns.    But they will try him out with the kids – need to see him train – and then make a decision.

Club Training:

  • No update this meeting.
  • MUTS is hosting a USSF 4v4 class; 16 coaches from different places are registered.   About 10 players are needed for the event; need more 6-8yr olds.
  • Coverer camp will be held this summer – the week of Aug 2nd. They will come and do a training/demo of what they will do at the camp.
    • It was suggested that other camps that kids have signed up for already run to the 17th of August – so after that would be ideal. Suggestion to push it out past that week was made but no vote/change at the mtg.
  • MUTS/NJYS: parent education occurred. The club will look to do something like that once or twice a year.
  • Roman mentioned the Millstone United GK school for the younger kids; he is looking for older kids to help out.

Treasury:

Carmine reviewed again the profit and loss.

Club Fees, including Rec fees, will be pulled 1st week of May.  Full fees will be as follows:

Field 4 is not yet lined and is closed until May.
