Cyclones Continue to Roll – Advance to NJ State Cup Final Game!!!

The U13 Millstone Cyclones make history as they move forward into the New Jersey State Cup Championship round on November 19th.  With their boundless energy and fierce determination, this group of sixteen girls has become the first team in Millstone’s history to make it to the finals in the State Cup following a win in the semi-finals against the Chatham United Cougars.

With their heart and spirit, they came back from a 1-0 deficit at halftime to dominate the second half and win the game 3-1.  A well-placed corner kick by Freehold’s Katie Mauro was received by Millstone’s Sydney Regina who headed the ball into the net to tie the game.  With victory on their minds, the Cyclones never let up from that moment forward.

Never losing sight of their goal, the girls continued to fight hard to secure a win.  Keeping their cool, a beautiful  pass from East Windsor’s Taylor Mastropasqua to East Windsor’s Jess Archer was skillfully netted just above reach of the Cougars goalie to give Millstone the lead.

With just minutes left to play, the Cyclones maintained their high level of play and finished off with a powerful shot from Millstone’s Alyssa Sloane to bring the team to a 3-1 victory!

The Cyclones will meet up with the Beachwood Dragonflies for the championship game on November 19th at 1:00 pm in Wall Township.  Please join the Cyclones and the Millstone United Travel Soccer Club in celebrating this awesome accomplishment!  The girls would love to see their many friends and fellow Millstone soccer players out there to support them on the 19th as they play for the number one spot in the State!

Millstone Cyclones Advance to State Cup Semi-Finals

The Millstone Cyclones continued their march toward State Cup glory in dramatic fashion as they defeated Hotspur Borrow in sudden death penalty kicks in the quarterfinals of the New Jersey Girls U 13 State Cup soccer tournament.

After seventy minutes of play in the quarterfinal match, the Cyclones and Hotspur Borrow were knotted at 1-1 thanks to a key goal by Jess Archer.   Even another 20 minutes of overtime left the two teams in a dead heat.  With the pressure mounting, the first round of penalty kicks began with goals by Alyssa Sloane and Sydney Regina.  Yet still, the teams remained tied.  Entering the golden goal round of penalty kicks, Taylor Mastropasqua hit her mark, yet it wasn’t until Katie DiFrancesco netted a well-placed kick that finally secured the win for Millstone. Goalie Ali DeSalvatore stayed cool under pressure and made several key saves leading to the win.

Rocco Regina, head coach of the Cyclones, said after the game, “You could cut the tension with a knife but somehow I knew the girls would find a way to win.  It was an outstanding team effort and I am very proud of all of them.”  The Cyclones certainly know how to win close games.  Through six games of their 8-game regular season in the Jersey Area Girls Soccer (JAGS) Olympic division, the Cyclones have won three games by a one goal margin.  None sweeter, however, than the victory on Saturday which gave them a birth in the State Cup semifinals.

The Cyclones will take on a talented Chatham United Cougars team this Sunday, November 6th in Chatham.   Sunday’s victor will advance to the New Jersey State Girls U13 State Cup Finals.

Moment of Silence to Mark 9/11 Anniversary

This year’s opening day of soccer happens to fall on a very solemn day in our great nation’s history.  The Millstone United Travel Soccer teams will observe a moment of silence before each of its scheduled home games in honor of the 10-year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.  Players and coaches from both teams will gather at center field, raise the American flag and silently reflect for one minute prior to the start of the games.  Millstone United Travel Soccer invites everyone in attendance to join the players and coaches in remembering all those affected in our community and across the country.
