Millstone Rockets U13 Continue Their Advance Toward the State Cup with a win advancing them to the Quarterfinals.

The Millstone Rockets continued their march toward a State Championship in dramatic fashion as they defeated West Morris Blizzard in sudden death penalty kicks. Starting with 64 teams throughout NJ, the Rockets are now one of 8 teams left.

The first half ended with the Rockets being down 0-2. After seventy minutes of play in the match, the Rockets and Blizzard were tied at 2-2.

Another 20 minutes of overtime in which the Rockets had a few opportunities, hitting the post twice, the two teams were still tied.

With the pressure mounting, the first round of penalty kicks began with goals by Olivia Denny, Nicole Winouski and Maddie Keefe.  Yet still, the teams remained tied.

Entering the sudden death goal round of penalty kicks, Hallie Conaghan scored next for the Rockets and West Morris needed to score to continue the sudden death round.  Morgan Bell made her third and final save on penalties to send the Rockets through to the Elite 8.

With the calm and focused coaching of Sean Conaghan after giving up an early goal and being down 2-0, Morgan stayed cool under pressure and made the plays she needed to help the team advance.

Scott Bernstiel, head coach of the Rockets, said after the game, “You learn a lot about your team when they are in tough situations and this group showed a ton of grit and toughness being able to bounce back from an early deficit. Coaches Jim Keefe and John Zeleznik kept reminding the girls at halftime they had come back from bigger deficits in the past and the girls responded with two big goals and constant pressure. I couldn’t be prouder of their resilience and at the end of the day it came down to their never say die attitude!”

The Rockets continue their march OCT 19th at home when they face Northern Burlington Academy.
